The days are getting longer, the weather is warming up, and the sun is shining brighter! These are signs that spring is officially here. I know I am definitely feeling pressure to break out of my winter hibernation and get my face looking fantastic for all the fun outdoor activities that are coming up soon. So here are some tips to shed your winter blues and get fresh-faced for spring.
Brighten up your skin. With hotter weather, you definitely want to start wearing less makeup for a fresher look. It’s also much easier when you don’t have to worry about makeup melting with the rising heat. So in order for you to wear less makeup, you need to improve the quality of your skin. Start the process by making sure you exfoliate your skin. You can do this with a simple exfoliating face wash or an exfoliating facial brush or cloth. Dead skin cells dull the surface of your skin, so exfoliate a couple times a week to put your best face forward!
Moisturize dry spots. I switch up my skincare products depending on the weather. The winter cold usually dries out and chaps one’s skin, so I use extra moisturizer. You may still have some leftover dry spots from the cold weather, so get rid of them with petroleum jelly. Whenever my skin gets extra dry and chapped, I slather on petroleum jelly before I go to sleep, and in the morning, voila! My skin is much softer and hydrated. Contrary to popular belief, you also need to moisturize your skin even if you have oily or acne prone skin. Your acne can get even worse if you don’t properly moisturize! Just make sure you get the proper moisturizer for your skin type; for example, if you have oily skin, you can try an oil-free mattifying moisturizer.
Get a chemical peel. A chemical peel is a highly effective method to make your skin look healthier, brighter, and smoother. It gets rid of all the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin that simple exfoliation cannot. Not only that, it helps to brighten up the dark spots (hyperpigmentation) and get rid of acne and acne scars. At the Chow Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, we can customize your peel to target your exact skin care concerns. Have fine line and wrinkles? A chemical peel also helps to smooth those out!
With these basic steps, you can be on your way to getting that spring glow! And as always, make sure you have sunscreen on hand at all times and that you apply it daily (whether or not the sun is out – as long as there is daylight you should apply sunscreen!). Sunscreen is key to preserving your healthy skin and fighting fine lines and wrinkles and age spots. Have additional skin care concerns, or ready to get your custom tailored peel?
