One of the key factors to looking great is good skin. As the largest organ in the body, it’s one of
the first things that others notice when they look at you! Now that the rising temperatures and melting
makeup of summer is right around the corner, you want to have great skin so
that you can lookyour best for the season. Unfortunately, most of us are cursed
with less than perfect skin. Don’t be
discouraged, though--everyoneneeds a little help in the skin department sooner
or later. Here are some great tips for keeping your skin clear!
Get rid of acne marks. For most of us, acne has tortured us at some point in our lives. If you are like me, you probably didn’t listen to the advice that people gave you and picked and prodded at the acne. Now you are left with acne scars, which can be dark, hyperpigmented spots where the pimples used to be. One of the most effective ways to get rid of such acne marks is with a chemical peel. Not only does it help to reduce acne, but it alsolightens dark spots (hyperpigmentation). Also, do you break out right before it’s that time of the month? Reduce your alcohol and dairy intake, which will help fight your “hormonal breakouts.”
Keep your face clean. One of the worst things you can do for your skin is to leave your makeup on overnight. It clogs your pores and can cause acne. This is why I always have makeup wipes handy. They have travel packs at drugstores for $1! You can stash them in your bag, your car, have them by your nightstand so that you will never have an excuse not to wash/wipe your face again.
Use a retinol. Retinols are proven to fight acne and fine lines and wrinkles. You can get a prescription for Retin-A at the Chow Center for Facial Plastic Surgery or you can try an over the counter retinol. The Tri-Retinol Complex™ from SkinMedica is one of my favorite products! It contains three forms of vitamin A to improve the appearance of fine lines, aging, and sun-damaged skin. It also has a sustained release formulation so that your skin doesn’t get dry or irritated when you use it. However, you always want to make sure that you wear sunscreen daily since retinols can make your skin more sensitive to sun exposure.

Keeping the skin clean and oil free during this time is a good prevention for any kind of acne. One way to get rid of blocked pores is by drinking more water and facials.
